Reg. (UE) 2025/40 – Packaging and packaging waste
Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging and packaging waste has recently been published, which aims to improve the environmental sustainability of packaging and ensure its free circulation in the internal market.
The regulation addresses the impact of packaging on human health, the environment and sustainability performance throughout its life cycle.
This regulation repeals Directive 94/62/EC and aims to reduce packaging waste, promote reuse and recycling and increase the use of recycled content in packaging.
Reg. (EU) 2025/40 will come into force on 12 February 2025, but its application is expected to start on 12 August 2026, to allow operators to adapt to the new rules
